Position Summary: The Accessioning clerk is responsible for the receiving, sorting, labeling, and the processing of daily specimens that are to be analyzed and reported.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Receive packages from FedEx and samples from couriers,

• Sort samples according to protocol,

• Perform QA, and specimen container check,

• Perform scanning and imaging for billing,

• Perform initial data entry in LIS,

• Prepare samples for send-outs to reference laboratories,

• Record discrepancies and communicating these errors to Supervisor and Client Services,

• Collaborates with other internal departments to achieve business demands,

• Other duties as directed by direct supervisor.

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); and one to three years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience accessioning specimens, required.

• Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience accessioning specimens, preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

• Proficiency in Computer Skills, including Microsoft Suite (i.e., Outlooks, Teams),

• Attention to detail,

• Strong oral and written communication skills,

• Strong data entry skills,

• Exceptional time management skills,

• Efficiency in sorting and labeling.

Other Qualifications, if applicable:

• Ensure all company safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards are met,

• Knowledge of Standard of Operations (SOP’s) related to performing patient phlebotomy and use of proper PPE,

• Maintain compliance with local, federal, HIPAA, CLIA, and CAP regulations.

Work Conditions:

• Accessioning position requires extended periods of sitting or standing at a workstation while working on a computer.

• Ability to lift, up to 30 lbs.

• Must use fingers, handles and arms 75% of time to perform the work of accessioning.
